Software Development Costs & Calculations
Discovery
1-4 Weeks
Assemble the team. Present the mission.
Development
2-12 Months
Like Rome, apps aren’t built in a day. The process may include interface design, prototyping, coding, testing and more. A clear process leads to a clear launch.
Clear Launch
1-4 Months
Three. Two. One. Liftoff!
Maintenance
Indefinite
The project doesn’t end after launch. We can expect bug fixes, new feature requests, security upgrades, performance optimization and more.
Pre-Project Consulting
Like rovers exploring the surface of Mars, the discovery phase is our opportunity to learn more about your business, your goals, your technologies and your proposed project. We work closely with your team to lay out project objectives, scope, funding, timeline and many other details. In particular, your pre-project consulting with Clear Launch can include several aspects to facilitate the process.

Timeline
1-4 Months

Description
Prior to development, it’s imperative to have UX completely laid out. Our deep dive into design and planning will cover: user personas, user journeys, UI, roadmapping, prototyping, data modeling and establishing architecture, technology and operations requirements.
Development
The Apollo Program, which landed man on the Moon, wasn’t just one but 14 separate missions. We don’t anticipate your application requiring so many iterations, but your first version, your MVP, likely won’t be your last. After v1 is complete, you’ll have a chance to really use and integrate your new software with your business. After some real-world application, most clients return for subsequent rounds of design and development having a better idea of what they want to do in v2 and beyond.

Velocity
Month-to-month costs will vary depending on how fast you want to move. There is a minimum escape velocity that must be achieved to move a project forward, but after that, how fast development moves along is based on the number of people in a pod and their experience level.
Impulse Drive
Impulse is great for the little, nonurgent things: minor enhancements, small bug fixes, cleaning up existing code and other ad hoc maintenance needs. Work won’t begin until approved by the client and is usually estimated ahead of time.
Budget
Varies
Light Speed
To move at the speed of light, you have a dedicated team of at least 1-2 developers. Light speed is our “normal” pace, meaning development will move forward at a steady rate with support staff coming in on an as-needed basis.
Budget
Starting at $40k/month
Warp Drive
To move at warp speed calls for a fully-engaged team of 4+ developers. Development moves forward at a rapid pace with regular testing cycles and feature releases and high involvement from project stakeholders.
Budget
Starting at $225k/month
Cloud Hosting & Ongoing Engagements
When development is completed, the work isn’t over. Long term, our developers and engineers provide support such as cloud hosting management and ongoing maintenance for bug fixes, feature requests, compliance and security upgrades, networking, server updates and more. The budget for these kinds of engagements varies based on the level of ongoing support you require.
Stratus: Low
A low level engagement is ideal when you expect your business to self-manage most monitoring and performance optimization responsibilities. Our developers are available for simple setup and deployment of lightweight tools and apps.
Budget
$250-$750/month
Altocumulus: Medium
In scenarios where you have a growing user base and require the support of basic business apps, we recommend a more reactive approach to ongoing cloud management. With this agreement, we’ll be able to respond quickly to issues as they arise.
Budget
$750-$2,500/month
Cirrus: High
A high degree of involvement will be necessary in the case of advanced applications with more complex setup and deployment requirements. Our developers will work closely with you to monitor activity and proactively address concerns.
Budget
$2,500+/month
